Campus Minister/ Theology Teacher, 2026-27

General Summary

The Campus Minister/ Theology Teacher supports the Diocese of St. Augustine's mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. They provide spiritual accompaniment and pastoral counseling to students, faculty, staff, and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, demonstrating the lived Gospel values through personal example and active participation in a faith community.
• Maintains physical and informational security at all times, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
• Meets regularly with students as scheduled or as needed to address spiritual, emotional, and pastoral concerns.
• Provides spiritual accompaniment to students, faculty, and staff, fostering a compassionate and faith-centered campus environment.
• Offers pastoral counseling appropriate to a Catholic high school setting, with sensitivity to developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Responds to pastoral needs identified by campus offices and those expressed by parents, guardians, teachers, students, or peers.
• Partners with families to support the holistic success and well-being of students, coordinating care with deans, teachers, and other support personnel.
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries, respects confidentiality, and adheres to all mandatory reporting requirements.
• Listens with compassion and responds with care to the hopes, concerns, and experiences of those seeking spiritual accompaniment.
• Recognizes and encourages awareness of God’s presence and work in the lives of students and the broader school community.
• Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly, and professional manner.
• Adheres to all diocesan and school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
• Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lesson plans designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives, as adopted by the school.
• Built the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate and help plan school religious and service-related activities.
• Demonstrates and effectively communicates knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; ability to organize learning materials to maximize time, as well as engage and motivate students.
• Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image. Sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively, in accordance with school policy.
• Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community.
• A minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited Catholic college/university in Theology, Religion, Religious Studies, or Theological Studies from a Catholic college or University with credentials in pastoral care/counseling.
• Endorsement by the bishop plus completed requirements in professional education study is required.
• Completes at least 30 hours of approved professional development in the area of religious studies every three (3) years.
• Completes the Ministry Formation Program of the Diocese of St. Augustine (or another comparable ministry program approved by the Office of Christian Formation).
• Respects, promotes, accommodates, and does not conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts, and instructs.
• Maintains a valid driver’s license.
• Successfully passes the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; completes Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
• Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
• Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
• Consistently demonstrates a positive, friendly, respectful, and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.

Languages Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Abilities

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
