About the role
The Finance Organization drives business value by acting as a strategic partner in every decision that supports the company’s success. Interns will gain exposure to one of the following Finance functions: Corporate Planning & Analysis, Global Commercial Services Finance, US Consumer Services Finance, Global Merchant and Network Finance, Controllership, or Global Treasury. This position is based in New York, NY.
Responsibilities
All interns receive a project that addresses a real business challenge. Examples of past projects include:
- Leveraging big data to understand American Express Card Member spending behavior by industry, market, and merchant to identify growth opportunities
- Conducting a Business-to-Business (B2B) industry overview and recommending potential acquisition targets across markets
- Assessing the efficiency of acquiring US Consumer Card Members through the Direct Mail acquisition channel
- Creating a prototype to enable financial analysis on mobile products
- Analyzing the profitability of U.S. Small Merchants
- Enhancing Comprehensive Capital Analysis & Review (CCAR) Stress Testing Analytics for the annual Federal Reserve Board submission
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a full-time MBA degree program
- Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
- Minimum of two years of prior relevant full-time work experience

- Ability to analyze and manipulate large datasets, identify trends, generate insights, and develop recommendations to drive growth
- Strategic thought leadership and creativity in translating data into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and self-motivation with robust interpersonal skills
- Adaptability to change and ability to build trust-based relationships across Finance teams and business partners in multiple locations and geographies
- Courage to make timely decisions, initiate change management, and drive execution
- Programming skills are a plus
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required; visa sponsorship is not available for this position
