Camp Music Conservatory Junior Instructor - Camp Keystone

About the role

Supports and coordinates the functions of the Conservatory Music and Arts program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.

Responsibilities

• Aids in the success of children and youth in school by increasing their involvement and motivation, and helping them set personal goals.
• Trains and develops campers for band, conducting, performance, and service learning.
• Assists with appropriate lessons for instruction time.
• Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teaches skills if necessary.
• Aids in recitals and presentations.
• Maintains program equipment and recommends and develops activities.
• Coordinates program and activities with camp policies and procedures.
• Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students to create a friendly and secure environment.
• Supervises and assists campers during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time.
• Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
• Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
• Schedules performances and ensures necessary supplies are donated or purchased.
• Participates in evening programs, special events, overnight stays, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
• Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
• Maintains personal living quarters in a neat, clean, and ready-for-inspection condition.
• Available to assist with all aspects of the camping program in interactions with staff and campers.
• Designs and teaches classes as assigned, including preparing lesson plans as appropriate.
• Assists counselors with handling campers needing special attention.
• Keeps personal living quarters neat and clean.
• Assists with various non-musical camp activities as assigned.
• Available to assist with all aspects of the camping program in interactions with staff and campers.
• Maintains a supervisory level of objectivity during all times.
• Identifies and meets campers' needs.

Requirements

• Six months experience teaching music, with the ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Physical Requirements: Endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching; eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Working Conditions: Daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
