About the role

The Salvation Army is seeking a Camp Music Instructor to lead the Conservatory Music program at Camp. This position involves providing quality music instruction, coordinating activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of campers.

Responsibilities

  • Teach music theory and provide appropriate lessons for campers.
  • Review and re-teach assigned homework to ensure understanding.
  • Prepare students for recitals and concerts.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor students' work in progress and competitions.
  • Develop activities that enhance musical abilities, motor, and learning skills.
  • Coordinate the program within camp policies and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure a positive environment for all campers.
  • Assist in various classes and evening programs as assigned.
  • Participate in camp activities and evening programs as needed.
  • Provide constant care and supervision of campers during meals and overnight stays.
  • Communicate effectively with campers and staff to ensure a safe and engaging experience.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience teaching music education and classroom settings.
  • Ability to play and teach music lessons to multiple students.
  • Effective communication and planning skills for childhood and youth programs.
  • Physical stamina and endurance for camp activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and respond to emergencies.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.

Qualifications

  • At least six months of experience teaching music education.
  • Preferred teaching experience involving more than one student.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Skills

  • Ability to teach in a group setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with campers and staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
  • Physical ability to respond to emergencies and maintain constant supervision.
  • Read and write the English language.
