The Opportunity
As a Camp Counselor at our Summer Camp Program, you will play a pivotal role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for campers. Your enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication will contribute to memorable experiences that foster personal growth, skill development, and lasting friendships.
Camp runs for 5 weeks throughout the summer, Monday – Thursday 9 am – 3 pm. Activities include: swim, tennis, golf, arts and crafts. Tennis and golf are run by the golf and tennis departments.
Duties And Functions
- Supervise and lead campers in a variety of recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and nature exploration.
- Plan and execute age-appropriate activities that align with the camp's theme and goals.
- Foster a sense of belonging and teamwork among campers by promoting inclusivity and cooperation.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Provide positive guidance and behavior management, promoting respect and empathy.
- Aid in preparing and organizing materials needed for daily activities.
- Encourage campers to try new activities and challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
- Collaborate with fellow camp staff to coordinate schedules, share ideas, and address any concerns.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, providing updates on camper progress and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and evaluations to continuously improve camp operations.
Qualification Standards
- High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, recreation, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or similar setting.
- Enthusiasm for outdoor activities, sports, arts and crafts, and interactive games.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect and engage with campers, parents, and fellow staff.
- First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start).
- Patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude in various situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and take on leadership responsibilities when required.
- Ability to work well with children.
- Able to communicate effectively with parents, other Camp Counsellors and campers.
- Able to motivate others towards learning new skills.
- Able to demonstrate responsible, ethical and professional conduct.
- Ability to provide support and instruction to others.
