About the role

Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Superintendent, the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor supervises a highway maintenance crew and maintains the existing highway inventory, including drainage and delineation, Portland Concrete Cement (PCC) pavements, asphalt pavements, emergency response, accident cleanup, and traffic control in a safe and efficient manner.

The incumbent will operate vehicles requiring a valid Class C driver license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Work hours are typically 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The incumbent may be asked to work alternate shifts such as 9/80, 4/10, nights, or weekends to assist with scheduling needs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a highway maintenance crew.
• Maintain existing highway inventory, including drainage and delineation.
• Oversee maintenance of Portland Concrete Cement (PCC) and asphalt pavements.
• Coordinate emergency response and accident cleanup.
• Implement traffic control measures.
• Operate state-owned or leased vehicles requiring a valid Class C driver’s license.

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with Class C endorsement (must provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on application).
• Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
• If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be provided for verification. Official or sealed transcripts may be required upon appointment.
• Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation report from a NACES or AICE approved agency.
• Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor exam. New or non-state civil service candidates must be on the state examination list to be eligible.

Pay

$5,401.00 - $7,032.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Schedule

• Permanent, full-time position.
• Standard work hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• May be required to work alternate shifts, including 9/80, 4/10, nights, or weekends.
