Multiple permanent, full-time positions available in El Dorado County. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

About the role

The Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker performs physical labor and unskilled tasks essential to maintaining California’s highways and rights of way.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, shovel, and rake asphalt; pick up roadside litter and dead animals; haul garbage.
  • Remove brush and undergrowth using axes, pruning shears, handsaws, chain saws, weed eaters, shovels, hoes, and bushchippers.
  • Seal cracks, resurface, oil, and patch roads.

Requirements

  • Valid California Class C driver’s license (must provide number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on application).
  • Pass a drug screening prior to hire.
  • Possession of minimum qualifications will be verified before interview/appointment; unofficial transcripts or U.S. equivalency reports for foreign education must be provided if basing eligibility on education.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

$4,102.00 - $4,865.00 per month.

Eligibility

Hire eligibility may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker exam. Candidates without current state civil service eligibility must be on the state examination list. Apply for the exam here.
