About the role
Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker helps the supervisor plan and schedule the work of the crew. In the field, oversees and leads the work of the crew engaged in highway maintenance work, primarily related to highway sweeping.
The incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License with a tank vehicle (N) endorsement and a current medical certificate. The incumbent may be required to work overtime including nights and weekends and may be required to work night shift during winter storm conditions. The incumbent is expected to respond to emergency call-outs. May be loaned to other cost centers. This position is represented under collective bargaining.
Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule the work of a highway maintenance crew.
- Oversee and lead crew members in highway maintenance tasks, primarily highway sweeping.
- Maintain a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License with tank vehicle (N) endorsement and current medical certificate.
- Work overtime, including nights and weekends, and respond to emergency call-outs.
- Work night shifts during winter storm conditions.
Requirements
- Valid California Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License with tank vehicle (N) endorsement.
- Current medical certificate.
- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment.
- Pass a drug screening prior to being hired.
- Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE LEADWORKER exam. For those without current eligibility, you must be on the state examination list.
Qualifications
If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be provided for verification. Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency report evaluation from a recognized agency (e.g., NACES or AICE).
Pay
$5,119.00 - $6,696.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
- Permanent, full-time position.
- In-office work location in San Bernardino County.
- May require overtime, nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs.
- May require night shifts during winter storm conditions.
