About the role
Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or guidance of a Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker, the Caltrans Equipment Operator I operates, maintains, and repairs various maintenance equipment. The incumbent will work individually or with a crew performing tasks related to highway maintenance work. May be assigned as a dedicated operator on specialty equipment and may be loaned to other cost centers.
Pay
$4,571.00 - $5,710.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
Permanent, Full Time. In-office work location in Los Angeles County.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and repair various maintenance equipment.
- Perform highway maintenance tasks individually or as part of a crew.
- Serve as a dedicated operator on specialty equipment when assigned.
Requirements
- Valid California Class B commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement and current medical certificate.
- Valid driver’s license required when operating a State-owned or leased vehicle.
- Pass a drug screening prior to being hired.
- Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I exam. For those new to state civil service employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for this position.
Qualifications
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be provided for verification. Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency report evaluation from a NACES or AICE approved agency.
