Call Center Operator

This role is with a large nonprofit healthcare system based in Long Beach, California that operates hospitals, outpatient centers, and medical offices across the region. You'd be working in the communications department, handling calls and emergency paging for a busy hospital campus around the clock.

Shift

Overnight shift, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, Friday through Tuesday (Wednesday and Thursday off)

Responsibilities

• Answer and direct incoming calls for the hospital
• Give callers phone numbers and department locations
• Operate the paging system for overhead and pager announcements
• Follow emergency codes and alarm protocols
• Work with hospital security during emergency situations
• Monitor incoming faxes, including lab requests and admission forms
• Register patients accurately in the electronic medical record system
• Use two patient identifiers to confirm the correct patient every time
• Log emergency codes accurately in the code book
• Clock in and out on time for every scheduled shift

Requirements

• At least 6 months of experience as an operator in a hospital or call center
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable using a computer and basic office software
• Working knowledge of medical terminology
• Reliable attendance and on time arrival every shift

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and Spanish, or English and Vietnamese
• Prior hospital admitting experience
• High school diploma
• Medical terminology course or certificate

Pay

In accordance with California pay transparency law, the pay range for this position is $20.00 to $23.50/hr. Final pay is based on experience and qualifications.
