Call Center - Intake Worker Day Shift

About the Role

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron, and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

This role involves providing pre-admission screening for individuals seeking services and linkage to internal/external resources for clients admitted to the agency. The position primarily involves taking calls at our Call Center, with no in-person client interaction. Calls will vary from crisis support to providing resources and screening/setting callers up for an intake with our SDA (Same Day Access) Team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides short-term assistance to clients.
  • Assists clients in accessing medical, financial, and housing resources.
  • Assists in creating community support systems for clients.
  • Screens individuals requesting services and determines appropriate course of action.
  • Provides crisis support to callers in need and dispatches Mobile Crisis teams as needed.
  • Coordinates care for active clients calling in for support from their team members.
  • Screens individuals for BJC Behavioral Health services.
  • Provides community referrals as needed.
  • Informs, outreaches, and successfully refers people to the appropriate services within the organization and larger community in a timely and respectful manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience (5-10 years preferred).
  • Experience with crisis support.
  • Experience working with behavioral health clients is required.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Teams, Outlook, and learning internal communication systems, EMR (electronic medical records), and phone systems.
  • General knowledge about DMH programming is a bonus but not necessary.
  • Independent worker.

Schedule

Day Shift: 8 AM – 4:30 PM, plus alternating weekends.
