About the role
This position oversees the measuring and test equipment (MTE) control system at Indiana Automotive Fasteners (IAF).
Responsibilities
- Reviews international, national, industry, and customer standards for new or revised MTE requirements.
- Affirms whether IAF’s existing documented practices are in conformance.
- If not, adds or revises the latter accordingly.
- Prepares and issues new or revised procedures or work instructions relating to measuring and testing equipment control.
- Conducts Gage R & R studies and determines the measurement uncertainty of laboratory testing equipment.
- Acts as the resident expert and guide for ABS QE and A2LA registrar auditors for MTE Control during third-party audits and for customer representatives during second-party audits.
- Maintains and adjusts as appropriate the calibration schedule for MTE to assure IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance.
- Determines/investigates the credentials of current and potential sub-contractors and maintains and updates the approved sub-contractor and supplier list to satisfy IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Coordinates sourcing, pricing, and scheduling of outside sub-contractors to perform calibration/certification services for measuring and test equipment as required by IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025.
- Administers the calibration and verification of the process furnaces and measuring and test equipment and directs/performs the periodic temperature distribution studies of all production furnaces and ovens.
- Is responsible for the stability and robustness of Optical Emission Spectrometer testing using control charts.
- Purchases new measuring equipment either from A.S.J. or domestic suppliers, assuring that ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 P.O. requirements are met, that cost effectiveness is considered, and that needed delivery requirements are assured/specified.
- Examines/inspects measuring and testing equipment upon receipt to assure conformance to the requirements specified on the purchase order.
- Maintains the measuring and testing equipment inventories, including standards, spare parts, etc.
- Performs, records, and reports periodic “Measuring Equipment Control Audits” to ensure that measuring equipment is maintained at its assigned machine(s) or process.
- Routinely repair/maintain measuring equipment on the production floor and in the lab, including preventive maintenance.
- Maintain all records, both hard copy and electronic (Gagetrak software) for all measuring and test equipment.
Qualifications
- A college degree (BS) in a math, science, or engineering-related field, or 3 to 5 years of experience working with Measurement & Testing Equipment (MTE).
- Certifications such as ASQ, CQT, or CQE are preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 standards related to MTE.
- Ability to work independently with discretion.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting documents and writing procedures.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, such as algebra and geometry, for measurement-related calculations.
- Strong reasoning skills to troubleshoot and solve problems.

- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and moving mechanical parts.

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift 25lbs to 100 pounds (occasionally).
- Frequent hand use, including fine manipulation, and ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
