CAH - BILLING CLERK

Location: Carthage, NY | Posting dates: September 18 – September 23, 2026 | Position type: Per Diem (various, undetermined)

Responsibilities

• Prepare third‑party claim forms for submission, both electronically and by paper.
• Follow basic claim submission rules and complete required forms.
• Perform follow‑up procedures to obtain proper payment from third parties.
• Answer all inquiries pertaining to billing functions.
• Provide general assistance and support to the business office, ensuring complete patient account representation in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Education

• Required: High School diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Hospital/medical office experience.
• Preferred: Medical Billing Certification through an accredited organization.

Licenses and Certifications

• AMBA (American Medical Billing Association) – required.
• CMRS (Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist) – required.
• HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association) – required.
• CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) – required.

Training and Experience

• Minimum two years of patient account experience.
• Problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD‑10 coding, and ability to read EOBs (explanations of benefits).
• Skill in basic data entry with 10‑key proficiency.
• Proficiency with computer applications.
• Ability to cooperate, be flexible, and assist when interfacing with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Ability to multi‑task and organize/report accurate, complete information.
• Basic math skills and respect for confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and establish effective working relationships.
• Ability to prepare records according to detailed instructions.
• Physical ability to sit for long periods and communicate effectively in person and on the phone.
• Consistency and timeliness in attendance.

Pay

Uncertified range: $22.97 – $29.57 per hour; Certified range: $24.30 – $32.43 per hour. Pay is determined by experience, qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.

Schedule

Per diem position with variable hours; exact schedule not predetermined.
