About the role
Performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions.
Responsibilities
- Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order by cleaning and performing preventative maintenance.
- Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment.
- Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
- Assists in training new technicians in techniques and procedures related to routine cage sanitation.
- Provides guidance and direction to cage wash trainees and technicians.
- Works independently. Acts in a lead capacity in the cage wash area under the supervision of a facility manager.
- Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.
- Uses personal protective equipment as required.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of cage wash or animal care experience.
- The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Qualifications
Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
