Cafeteria/Recess Monitor

10-month part-time position (August–June) reporting to the Building Principal. Hours are late morning to early afternoon, Monday–Friday, approximately 2.5–3 hours per day. The District is flexible in staffing; applicants may request 2–5 days per week.

About the role

Provide assistance and supervision for children during recess and lunchtime to ensure a positive, safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students at playtime and/or lunchtime and maintain a harmonious atmosphere.
• Enforce school rules and procedures.
• Report equipment in need of repair to the school principal.
• Organize group games and activities.
• Access, store, and maintain play equipment (balls, jump ropes, etc.).
• Direct safe, organized movement of students to and from playground, lunchroom, and classroom.
• Assist students in lunchroom clean-up and obtaining lunch or other necessary items.
• Provide immediate attention to injured students until the school nurse is available.
• Resolve student conflicts by encouraging peaceful resolution of problems.
• Serve as a member of building committees as needed.
• Report concerns or problems to building administrators.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Current criminal record and child abuse clearances.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Common-sense reasoning and conflict-resolution skills appropriate for student interactions.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

Pay

$16.35 per hour for the 2026–2027 school year.
