Café Supervisor H-1 (Hiring more than one)

This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position limited to 1,500 hours in a 365-day period and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits. Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program.

Purpose of the Position

This position is responsible for cash and card sales in the Café, hands-on preparation of menu items (e.g., baked goods, brunch items, sandwiches, salads, coffees, and other beverages), and facility closing/clean-up. The role ensures high-quality food and beverage service with an emphasis on exemplary customer service. The Café Supervisor also supervises student employees in the absence of the manager and may assist with or independently run concessions events, including but not limited to football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, track, Commencement, non-CNU athletic rentals, and other required events.

Responsibilities

• Handle cash and card sales in the Café.
• Prepare menu items, including baked goods, brunch items, sandwiches, salads, coffees, and other beverages.
• Close the facility and perform clean-up duties.
• Supervise student employees in the absence of the manager.
• Assist with or independently run concessions events (e.g., athletic events, Commencement, and other special events).
• Maintain high standards of food quality and customer service.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in the food service industry.
• Supervisory experience.
• Cash handling experience.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and perform physical tasks (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, reaching, repetitive motion).
• Ability to work posted Café hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight during 24/7 periods before and during exam week.
• Professional appearance and ability to work independently.

Additional Considerations

• Café, sandwich, and salad-making experience is preferred.

Pay

Starting at $15.71 to $19.64 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.

Conditions of Employment

• This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.
• Must be available to work posted Café hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight during 24/7 periods before and during exam week.
• Not eligible for telework.
