Responsibilities
- Greets all customers by providing quick, friendly, and personal service.
- Delivers legendary customer service with a "customer comes first" attitude and connects with customers to discover and respond to their needs.
- Sells and serves baked goods and food items; processes transactions through the POS and provides change while following cash handling procedures and register policies.
- Maintains high standards for product preparation, adhering to all licensed Starbucks recipes (where applicable), specialty drink measurements, and food presentation.
- Prepares top-quality espresso shots and maintains espresso equipment to manufacturer and sanitation standards.
- Maintains composure during high-volume periods or unusual events to ensure store operations meet standards and sets a positive example for the team.
- Communicates with staff and management to solve problems, improve quality and service, and contribute to café goals for increasing sales and profits.
- Assists with new barista training by reinforcing successful performance and providing respectful coaching.
- Monitors and records temperatures of food items and equipment (e.g., dish machines, refrigerators) and reports unsafe temperatures to management.
- Ensures safe food handling by monitoring cooked food temperatures and following established procedures to prevent bacterial contamination.
- Prepares inventory, requisitions daily supplies, and ensures proper labeling and storage; replenishes food service areas with supplies.
- Follows operational policies and procedures for safe food handling, sanitation, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards.
- Performs ongoing sanitation duties to maintain a safe work environment, including cleaning utensils, refrigerators, carts, and equipment.
- Attends barista training sessions to attain and maintain certification.
Requirements
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a hospital or hotel/restaurant food service environment.
- No formal education required.
- Thorough understanding of food preparation through on-the-job training or a food service course.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and work in a self-directed environment.
- Ability to read and understand written and oral communications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Operates equipment such as espresso machines, ovens, microwaves, dish machines, grills, and registers.
- Stands for long periods, walks, reaches above shoulders, squats, bends, twists, kneels, and climbs throughout the shift.
- Frequently uses hand and finger motions, handles or feels objects, and reaches with hands and arms.
- Lifting requirements:
- Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 20 lbs.
- Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs. at waist height, with a maximum carrying distance of 5 feet.
- Pushes/pulls up to 20 lbs.
- Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, spices, and cleaning agents.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards; protective clothing may be required.
- Works in a kitchen environment with exposure to sharp knives, hot surfaces, and other hazards.
