Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models for commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, hangers, equipment layouts, and spooling.
  • Cook up close with HVAC Operations, Project Managers, Engineers, and Fabrication teams to ensure designs meet project requirements.
  • Organize and manage workload to meet project deadlines while maintaining budgets and quality standards.
  • Maintain and update HVAC drawing standards, templates, and project databases.
  • Create accurate fabrication and installation drawings, ensuring compliance with SMACNA standards, project specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Suggest design improvements and value engineering opportunities based on initial concepts and practical fabrication/installation feedback.
  • Aid in material selection and specification for HVAC systems and components.
  • Perform quality reviews of drawings and models to ensure accuracy and constructability.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior designers and project teams as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–5+ years of CAD design experience focused on HVAC systems, preferably in commercial and industrial construction.
  • Education: Associate’s degree or technical school accreditation in CAD, Drafting, Mechanical Design, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or fabrication CAD software (e.g., CADmep, Fabrication CAMduct) required. Valid driver’s license a plus.

  • Advanced technical expertise in HVAC CAD design and 3D modeling.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and fabrication processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, constructible drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to suggest practical design improvements.

Pay Range

$17 - $24 per hour
