CAD Design Technician
About the role
This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow within one of Corning Incorporated’s key engineering organizations, supporting the deployment of new, innovative, and technically challenging technologies. As a member of the Melting Design team, the position is responsible for the detailed design of Display Technologies melting process equipment, including support for repairs, expansions, and technology improvements to existing platforms. The role also provides project support for key divisional initiatives, with a focus on implementing robust, cost-effective process machine systems in Corning’s manufacturing plants.
Responsibilities
- Develop scope of work documents for suppliers for quotes, purchase orders, and repairs
- Support fabrication, test runs, and equipment acceptance at supplier sites
- Provide technical support for Melting Design Reviews, Potential Problem Analysis reviews, and day-to-day design challenges within the department
- Work with experienced engineers to complete process equipment design and drawing details
- Evaluate the viability of incoming design changes
- Participate in design reviews, risk mitigation meetings, and system interference reviews
- Report to supervision on issues, decisions, and trial results
- Interact with domestic and international operation sites and the Science and Technology Division
- Adhere to department drawing and file standards
- Follow Intellectual Asset Protection procedures and standards
Education and Experience Requirements
- AAS Mechanical Technology or equivalent discipline
- 2–5 years related experience in a design or engineering support role
- Solid experience with 3D CAD software
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing proficiency
- Knowledge of standard machining processes
- Ability to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
- Fluent in English
Desired Skills
- High temperature equipment design experience
- Familiarity with metal and ceramic fabrication processes
- SolidWorks CAD software proficiency
- 2D CAD proficiency (AutoCAD preferred)
- Familiarity with EPDM for document management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Microsoft Office software proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Successful experience working in a diverse team environment
- Flexible and adaptable
- Self-starter
Travel Requirements
10–20% combined domestic and international travel.
Pay
The range for this position is $48,784.00 – $67,078.00 assuming full-time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
