Cable Assembly Technician

About the role

You’ll join a dynamic assembly team producing both production and prototype products using a variety of manual and automatic tools.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and perform functions per product process plans and complex engineering prints.
• Perform a wide variety of assembly/support on electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, or measurement systems.
• Determine and/or follow methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, and fitting on prototype and assembly units.
• Perform test and production machine setups while adhering to tolerancing stated in component/assembly drawings.
• Provide feedback to Engineering on process, fixture, and documentation improvement opportunities.
• Test and evaluate Company and competitor’s products and components.
• Separate non-conforming product from conforming product.
• Apply knowledge of quality system documentation and the interrelation of the complete quality system.
• Meet the required rate of production for the product being produced.
• May be responsible for closing jobs and pulling production schedule for the team.
• Requisition and communicate maintenance needs for special set-up and complicated machine adjustments.
• Comply with and participate in all Smiths Connectors EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training requirements.

Requirements

• Basic math skills
• Ability to interpret and perform assembly functions
• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Above average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts
• Ability to work with others
• Excellent eye/hand coordination
• Ability to use microscopes, comparator, and other measuring devices
• 3+ years’ experience soldering
• 3+ years’ experience preparing and terminating cables and fine wires
• IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 certifications (covers wire and cable assembly)
• IPC-620 certification or extensive hands-on training
