Job Purpose
The Cabin Keeper is responsible for cleaning and preparing guest rooms and public areas to meet established standards of cleanliness and propriety, ensuring guest satisfaction and maximizing revenues.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve items from shelves and storerooms, set up cleaning cart with supplies, and maintain carts and storerooms in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Clean and wipe windows, doors, walls, closets and fixtures in rooms, public areas and hallways, using ladders or stools as needed.
- Wash shower walls and tub, clean toilets and stall walls, wipe exposed pipes, clean mirrors, sinks and walls to keep guest and public restrooms clean and sanitary.
- Replace towels, soaps and room amenities, restock literature, and wash all hard floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) to remove dirt and soiled areas.
- Dust and polish furniture, fixtures and wall hangings, including reaching vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.
- Strips beds of all linen, remakes with fresh linens, checks bedspread, blankets and bed pads for cleanliness, and replaces if soiled.
- Lift mattresses to check for soil between mattresses and under bed, checks closet for cleanliness, wipes closet door, handle and overhead shelves, and restocks guest room supplies like hangers, extra blankets and pillows.
- Vacuum rooms, public areas and hallways, operating vacuums weighing up to 25lbs., and lifting/moving heavy furniture as needed.
- Inspect all door and window locks, report any unsecured or unsafe situations to management, inspect room equipment for proper working order, and report any room status or maintenance deficiencies in writing to the Executive Housekeeper for prompt repair/resolution.
- Maintain a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times, and secure and maintain custody of equipment, keys and supplies at all times to protect and preserve hotel property.
- Assist the laundry department by retrieving soiled linen, sorting laundry, utilizing industrial washers, dryers and pressers, folding and distributing cleaned linen, and providing assistance to other employees and departments.
- Clean patio/balcony areas by sweeping or hosing the floor, wiping down all furniture and fixtures, picking up garbage, and cleaning patio/balcony doors and windows.
- Perform other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School diploma / Secondary qualification or equivalent.
- Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham or cleaning standards.
- Basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, use of cleaning products and operation of standard cleaning equipment.
- Upper body strength to lift up to 50lbs. continually throughout an 8 hour shift.
- Finger, hand and upper body dexterity to push, pull and move levers, equipment and furniture throughout 8 hour shift.
- Ability to work with arms raised above head throughout an 8 hour shift.
- Ability to maneuver fully loaded maid cart, weighing up to 50lbs., through hallways and into/out of closets during entire work day.
- Basic residential cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaning equipment.
- Cleaning cart, ladder/stepping stool, commercial washers, dryers and pressers.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals on a continual basis.
- Prolonged strenuous physical activity in indoor climate-controlled environment.
- Excessive heat and humidity in laundry.
