About the role

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing practice standards for medical surgical services.
• Collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
• Serving as the Resource nurse role when oriented and as directed.
• Supporting the organization vision and mission.
• Utilizing knowledge of patient's age, developmental status, spiritual and cultural diversity in provision of patient care.
• Contributing to quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes.
• Setting priorities according to patient care needs.
• Completing initial assessments and re-assessments of patient care needs based on chart review and/or direct observation.
• Documenting care on patients according to diagnosis and established standards of practice.
• Reassessing as patient condition warrants and preparing transfer and discharge as appropriate.
• Recognizing signs and symptoms of potential emergencies, including behavioral and physical changes.
• Initiating appropriate actions and timely interventions.
• Recognizing indicators and proper reporting of abuse.
• Practicing National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) per JCAHO reference.
• Utilizing appropriate methods to assess risk and prevent patient falls and skin breakdown on intact skin.
• Assessing/alternative for management of restraints.
• Performing and documenting legible, timely, and accurate nursing interventions to meet patient care needs.
• Coordinating total nursing care to the patient using the plan of care to provide continuity of care.
• Assuming responsibility for teaching and documenting patient education appropriately and consistently.
