About the Role
Participates in peer interviewing and review processes. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the delivery of nursing services.
Responsibilities
- Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health and unit-specific data for process improvement initiatives.
- Conducts initial patient assessments within expected timeframes, initiates consults as indicated, and identifies patient/family teaching and discharge planning needs.
- Maintains safe practices by demonstrating unit-specific clinical competency and compliance with all regulatory standards.
- Ensures safe and effective handoff communications and documentation between caregivers.
- Communicates courteously with internal and external customers in person or on the telephone.
- Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments.
- Participates in hourly rounding using the Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You (AIDET) technique to improve patient outcomes.
- Incorporates Caring Model behaviors and culturally competent care into daily practice.
- Adheres to organizational standards for dress and professional appearance.
- Collaborates and demonstrates teamwork in managing patient flow, promoting timely patient placement by following hospital policy for admission, discharge, and transfer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's of Nursing [Required]
- Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
- Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
- PCU accurate care experience
Skills
- Proficient clinical critical care skills and critical thinking skills with strong communication skills [Required]
- Basic computer skills and commitment to hourly patient rounding [Required]
- Previous EKG Interpretation Class [Preferred]
- Must possess frequent independent judgment and the ability to handle clinical situations requiring sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills, including clinical assessment, data analysis, and patient response [Preferred]
- Responsible for providing quality patient care and continuously prioritizing multiple duties [Preferred]
- Ability to function calmly and professionally during stressful situations [Preferred]
- Utilization of assessment, reassessment, and critical-thinking skills in dealing with changes in patient outcomes [Preferred]
- General knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, as well as the pharmacological process in the appropriate administration or delivery of medications [Preferred]
- Skill to maintain effective working relationships with health professionals and others to foster an environment conducive to carrying out the mission of the facility [Preferred]
- Skill to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, to direct the overall professional nursing services in a manner that encourages the open exchange of ideas and information [Preferred]
