About the role

Full-time Certified Nursing Assistant position available. This role involves providing routine daily nursing care and services to patients in accordance with each patient's assessment and care plan. The CNA is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Record all entries in an informative and descriptive manner using only authorized abbreviations
  • Report all changes in patients to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse as soon as practical
  • Report all accidents and incidents observed on the shift they occur
  • Ensure patient rooms are ready for receiving patients (bed made, name tags up, admission kit available)
  • Greet and escort patients to their rooms
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Follow work assignments and schedules in completing assigned tasks
  • Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel to maintain adequate nursing services
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and calm environment throughout the unit
  • Meet with shift nursing personnel regularly to identify and correct problem areas
  • Report all complaints and grievances made by residents
  • Notify the facility when late or absent from work
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals
  • Participate in and receive nursing report upon reporting for duty
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Assist patients with daily dental and mouth care
  • Assist patients with bath functions (bedbath, tub or shower bath)
  • Assist patients with ADLs as necessary
  • Keep patients dry by changing gown, clothing, linen when wet or soiled
  • Change bed linens and make beds, keeping linens tight to avoid wrinkles
  • Put extra covers on beds as requested
  • Maintain intake and output records as instructed
  • Assist patients in preparing for medical tests (lab work, x-ray, therapy, dental)
  • Assist patients in preparing for activity and social programs
  • Assist in transporting patients to/from appointments and programs
  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting patients
  • Assist patients to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed
  • Change dressings, bandages, and binders as instructed
  • Weigh and measure patients as instructed
  • Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations
  • Answer calls promptly
  • Ensure patients unable to call for help are checked frequently
  • Check each patient routinely to ensure personal care needs are being met
  • Observe and report pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent bedsores
  • Report injuries of unknown source, including skin tears
  • Assist with application of slings, elastic bandages, and binders
  • Turn all medications found in resident's room/possession over to Nurse Supervisor
  • Watch for and report changes in room temperature, ventilation, lighting
  • Prepare patients for meals (take to bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, raise bed, position tables)
  • Serve food trays and assist with feeding as indicated
  • Assist patients with identifying food arrangements
  • Record patients' food/fluid intake and report changes in eating habits
  • Keep patient water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift
  • Perform after meal care (remove trays, clean hands, face, clothing, take to bathroom)
  • Check rooms for food articles
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain certification
  • Attend and participate in orientation programs and OSHA/CDC in-service training
  • Attend and participate in advance directive in-service training programs
  • Maintain Relias learning
  • Participate in in-service training prior to performing tasks involving potential blood/body fluid exposure
  • Wash hands before and after performing any service
  • Keep nurses' call system within easy reach
  • Immediately notify Nurse Supervisor of elopement
  • Follow established safety precautions in all duties
  • Keep patient possessions off the floor and properly stored
  • Keep floors dry and report spills immediately
  • Keep excess supplies and equipment off the floor and stored in designated areas
  • Wash wheelchairs, walkers, etc. as instructed
  • Clean, disinfect, and return patient care equipment to designated storage after each use
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties relating to nursing care procedures
  • Store all tools, equipment, and supplies before breaks or at end of work day
  • Report hazardous conditions and equipment to Nurse Supervisor immediately
  • Report all safety violations
  • Follow established smoking regulations and report violations
  • Report communicable or infectious disease to Director of Nursing Services or Infection Control Coordinator
  • Follow established isolation precautions and procedures
  • Follow procedures for use and disposal of personal protective equipment
  • Wear and use safety equipment when lifting or moving residents
  • Report missing/illegible labels and SDSs to supervisor
  • Use only equipment trained to use and operate all equipment safely
  • Use only necessary equipment and supplies without waste
  • Report defective equipment to Nurse Supervisor
  • Inform Nurse Supervisor of equipment and supply needs
  • Review care plans daily to determine changes in resident's daily care routine
  • Inform Nurse Supervisor of changes in patient's condition for care plan updates
  • Ensure notes reflect that the care plan is being followed
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient care information
  • Treat all patients fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect
  • Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy
  • Knock before entering patient's room
  • Report all grievances and complaints made by patients
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property
  • Honor patient's refusal of treatment request and report to supervisor

Schedule

12-hour shifts. May require working beyond normal hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with laws of this state
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the public
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle difficult residents
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and incorporate them into existing nursing practices
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day
  • Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics enabling adequate function
  • Must function independently with flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work effectively
  • Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical examination
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
