C&M Crewman I

About the Role
Under immediate supervision of Construction and Maintenance Foreman, performs equipment operation and physical labor tasks required in general gas distribution construction/maintenance work. Performs miscellaneous duties including painting meters and regulators, cutting and cleaning brush/weeds from around work areas, and assisting Foreman and other crews with related duties as assigned. Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Responsibilities
- Uses pick, shovel, and digging bar in the process of gas main and service line installation and maintenance.
- Operates excavation equipment relating to construction and maintenance of gas distribution system.
- Locates and repairs leaks on gas distribution system.
- Regularly loads and unloads materials and equipment to and from crew truck.
- Maintains truck inventory so that materials are on hand for construction and maintenance activities.
- Paints meter sets, regulator stations, city gates, etc. as needed.
- Operates jackhammer and compactor on a regular basis.
- Maintains equipment and machinery (greasing, oil and filter changes, light bulbs, general cleaning, etc.).
- Assists in leak investigations/pinpointing leaks using probe bar and Combustible Gas Indicator.
- Locates mains and services using a Metro-Tech pipe locator or similar equipment.
- Performs various C & M tasks such as priming and wrapping of steel pipe, installation of tracer wire on non-steel systems (P.E., PVC, etc.).
- Operates company vehicle as required.
- Works according to company safety standards, including working in a blowing gas environment using SCBA equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid AZ Driver’s license.
- Must obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 95 pounds.
- Must be able to endure strenuous work in all types of weather conditions.
- Some after-hours and weekend call-out duties.
- Adherence to the Company Code of Ethics and Principals of Conduct.
Progression and Qualifications
- C&M Crewman I: Entry-level position.
- C&M Crewman II: Requires proven tested knowledge of company procedures, including gas pipeline construction issues, and all qualifications of a C&M Crewman I. Employee must be proficient at operating all related company construction department equipment.
- C&M Crewman III: Requires proven tested ability to pass Title 49 CFR Part 192 Appendix-C Stick Arc- < 2” Butt/ All Fillet weld qualification, and all qualifications of a C&M Crewman II (e.g., PE Fitters Card, Class A CDL, O & M Training, task training). Employee must be a proficient operator of all related company construction department equipment.
- C&M Crewman IV: Requires proven tested ability to pass API 1104 Stick Arc- 12” Multiple weld qualification, and all qualifications of a C&M Crewman III (e.g., Appendix-C, Stick Arc- < 2” Butt/ All Fillet weld qualification, PE Fitters Card, Class A CDL, O & M Training, task training). Employee must be a proficient operator of all related company construction department equipment.
Pay
Salary Grade FL (I), FO (II), FS (III), FT (IV) ($24.94–$35.66 DOE).
