C. E. A. salary range: $13,472.00 - $15,297.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
About the role
The Deputy Director, Disability Insurance (DI) Branch, plans, organizes, and facilitates the activities of the Branch (approximately 1,400 employees) to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of DI benefit payments to eligible individuals. This includes oversight of the Paid Family Leave program, the State Disability Insurance program, the Nonindustrial Disability Insurance program for state employees, and the Disability Insurance Elective Coverage program for self-employed individuals through the Department’s DI field offices.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is one of the largest state departments, with employees at hundreds of service locations throughout California. EDD provides a wide variety of services to millions of Californians under programs such as Job Service, Unemployment Insurance (UI), State Disability Insurance (SDI), Workforce Investment, and Labor Market Information. As California’s largest tax collection agency, EDD also handles the audit and collection of payroll taxes and maintains employment records for over 17 million California workers.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Disability Insurance Branch to ensure efficient delivery of DI benefit payments.
- Oversee the Paid Family Leave program, State Disability Insurance program, Nonindustrial Disability Insurance program for state employees, and Disability Insurance Elective Coverage program for self-employed individuals.
- Manage approximately 1,400 employees within the Branch.
- Collaborate with teams to foster diversity and innovation in program delivery.
Requirements
- Eligibility for appointment to a Career Executive Assignment (CEA) by the State of California.
- Successful clearance of a Background Investigation prior to hiring.
