About the role

The Deputy District Director, Communications and External Affairs serves under the general direction of the District 7 Director in Los Angeles County. This position oversees District Communications, Legislative Affairs, Media and Public Activities, Department Correspondence Tracking Systems, Small Business Enterprise, California Public Records Act compliance, Graphic Services, and Executive Office Support. The role provides critical support to the District Director on policy matters and issues of concern to District 7, which serves Los Angeles and Ventura Counties—the second largest transportation district in the Department.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication channels and messaging strategies to deliver timely, accurate information about transportation projects and programs to external stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
• Support and promote state transportation policies and priorities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
• Lead and effectuate change, demonstrating adaptability in a dynamic environment.
• Oversee compliance with California Public Records Act guidelines.
• Manage Small Business Enterprise initiatives and provide executive office support.
• Coordinate graphic services and department correspondence tracking systems.

Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must address the following criteria with detailed, specific examples from professional education, experience, and training. Responses must be submitted on the Department of Transportation’s CEA Statement of Qualifications Form (PM-0503). Each response is limited to 2,000 characters and will be scored individually.

• Stakeholder Relationships: Demonstrate your ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
• Policy Support: Describe how your professional experience equips you to support and promote state transportation policies and priorities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
• Change Leadership: Provide concrete examples of leading and effectuating change in previous roles.

Pay

Monthly salary range: $10,349.00 - $14,118.00. An appointment salary higher than the maximum range may be supported by the Department. New state employees will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, if applicable.
