About the role
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) seeks a Branch Chief for the Financial Management Branch (FMB) to lead budget development, allocations, and fiscal policy guidance for core programs. The role supports the department’s mission to serve, protect, and empower Californians in need while advancing an inclusive, diverse, and equitable California.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, develop, and direct the Financial Management Branch.
- Maintain and develop the department’s operational budget.
- Allocate the local assistance budget and provide fiscal claiming guidance.
- Report administratively to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/Deputy Director of the Finance and Accounting Division.
- Work directly with the department’s Directorate to provide fiscal support.
- Represent the department in budget negotiations with oversight agencies.
- Inform decision‑making processes with fiscal policy insights.
Requirements
- Eligible for appointment to a Career Executive Assignment (CEA) with the State of California.
Skills
- Leadership experience in the state budget development process.

Pay
Salary range: $10,349.00 – $12,526.00 per month (Classification C. E. A.). New to State candidates are hired at the minimum of the range.
Schedule
Full‑time position with a hybrid telework arrangement.
