What You’ll Be Doing

Supervises personnel at Special Investigations (Cleveland, Youngstown, and Canton) service offices in case management and management of medical & disability claims suspected of fraud;

Monitors and reviews reports of investigation and the preparation/presentation of exhibits and evidence for criminal, civil, and arbitration/labor hearings to ensure appropriateness and accuracy;

Develops and recommends BWC policies and procedures designed to identify & deter fraudulent activity within BWC and among outside sources (i.e. injured workers, employers, and providers);

Oversees investigative field operations for operations and ensures compliance with the law;

Acts as a liaison for the agency by preparing speeches, speaks at public forums about BWC Special Investigations.

Job Requirements

  • 3 yrs. investigative trg. or exp. with experience corresponding to insurance fraud;
  • 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory position associated with criminal investigation of insurance claims or insurance fraud department;
  • valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Or 4 yrs. investigative trg. or exp. where experience does not correspond to insurance fraud;
  • 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory principles/techniques;
  • valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Or 3 yrs. as BWC Fraud Investigator, 26261 or in comparable position, or as BWC Fraud Analyst, 26262 or in comparable position, or any combination of previously named classifications or positions comparable thereto totaling 3 yrs. exp.;
  • valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Job Skills

  • Knowledge of: WC laws, policies and procedures*; eligibility criteria and procedures used for processing WC claims*; English grammar; oral and written business communication; investigative practices and techniques; public relations; employee training and development; management principles/techniques; rules of evidence; Fraud Division investigation policies; procedures and techniques*; labor relations; supervisory principles and techniques; interviewing.
  • Skill in: use of PC; operation of motor vehicle.
  • Ability To: define problems; collect data, establish facts and draw complex conclusions about existence of fraud; read and understand medical reference manuals; write meaningful, accurate reports, gather, collate and classify information about data, people or things; respond to sensitive inquiries from and contacts with injured workers, employers, providers, public officials, law enforcement agencies; other state agencies; establish friendly atmosphere as supervisor of department.
