Position Summary
We are seeking a Buying Point Manager to oversee the operations of Doster Peanut, a key player in the Georgia peanut supply chain. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture and farming, along with excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
Position Responsibilities
- Own and manage relationships with existing customers (growers).
- Maintain and grow business with current customers and acquire additional volume from new customers.
- Negotiate farmer stock contracts with growers, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Provide customer service to the grower base, particularly during harvest season.
- Organize and coordinate deliveries of farmer stock, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Monitor FSIS grading process to ensure accurate grading of farmer stock.
- Preserve the value of farmer stock, minimize shrink, and maintain quality.
- Focus on continuous improvement in farmer stock drying, cleaning, handling, storing, and bailout management.
- Market and sell peanut seed.
- Manage and maintain the facility and associated equipment.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop buying point staff.
- Assist in company crop reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, or related field preferred.
- Ten (10) years of work experience in an agricultural-related business, with experience and/or knowledge in peanut production and growers preferred.
- Ability to work extended hours during peanut harvest season.
- Strong understanding and focus on workplace safety.
- Basic mechanical and electrical skills preferred.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead, direct, and motivate employees.
- Proficient skills with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Position Location
The role is performed on-site at a facility that processes peanuts. Employees must be able to work in areas where peanuts and related allergens are present and may be exposed by contact or in the air.
