Buyer - (Sourcing Specialist)

The Buyer (Sourcing Specialist) uses professional procurement practices to obtain goods and services, ensuring high quality, cost effectiveness, and timely delivery. This role manages commodities that involve detailed or complex specifications and high cost.
Responsibilities
- Reviews requests for assigned materials, parts, and/or services and verifies specifications.
- Sources components or services and ensures timely preparation and communication of RFQ (Request for Quote).
- Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information.
- Analyzes and evaluates bids to determine optimum value.
- Negotiates price, quality, delivery, and terms; selects suppliers and places purchase orders while ensuring compliance with local and Corporate Operating Procedures and Ethical Code of Conduct.
- Expedites delivery of items by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure merchandise, supplies, and equipment are forwarded on the specified shipping date.
- Assists other departments with problem resolution involving discrepancies between purchase orders, delivered quantity, quality, and/or price.
- Works with operations and quality to establish product integrity, performance, and delivery measures to evaluate supplier performance in the assigned area.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of procurement experience with a working knowledge of procurement methods, procedures, and processes. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) preferred.
Skills
- PC proficiency with MS Office applications and advanced knowledge of Excel for research and spreadsheet analysis.
- Experience with Requisition/Procurement systems (AS400-based applications a plus).
- Specialist knowledge of at least one area of purchasing, inventory control, and supply management, and general knowledge of several areas.
- Working knowledge of assigned commodity group(s).
- Solid understanding of economic factors affecting the company’s business.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Spends most of the time in an office environment. Some travel for training and supplier contact may be required.
