About the Role

A Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) Buyer is responsible for preparing and issuing purchase orders for products and services used to maintain and repair machinery. The role involves regular interaction with plant staff to determine supply needs, with most work performed independently on a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all purchasing and distribution aspects while considering cost-effective solutions.
  • Communicate with clients, foster a team atmosphere, and report on progress.
  • Assess purchase orders for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Receive and compare price quotes from vendors against requirements and budget, then issue purchase orders via fax or computer.
  • Collaborate across organizational levels, functions, and geographies to achieve procurement goals.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with key suppliers, including ordering, demand communication, issue resolution, and backorder follow-up.
  • Develop a strong understanding of suppliers and their capabilities.
  • Assist with contract development and execution.
  • Ensure continuity of goods and services that meet quality, service, and price standards.
  • Identify, prioritize, and impact key business opportunities.
  • Work with stakeholders and leadership to implement policies that increase spending visibility and compliance.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • College degree (Associate/Bachelor) in a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in MRO or a related field.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • In-depth understanding of MRO processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and overtime as needed, including weekends and off-shifts.

Physical Demands

  • Work within temperature-controlled environments (heat/cold).

  • Use small hand tools for equipment assembly.
  • Hand/eye coordination and depth perception.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Push/pull up to 500 lbs.
  • Stand/walk for 100% of the shift.
  • Regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle objects/tools, and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

  • Stand on concrete floors.
  • Work in ambient temperatures.
  • Work alone for extended periods.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as needed, including safety shoes, insulated gloves, and safety knives.

Employees must be at least 18 years of age. Extended hours may be required based on production needs, including after-hours and weekend work.
