Buyer III | Supply Chain

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, providing Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

About the role

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will support day-to-day tactical purchasing functions for various construction and facilities projects, as well as provide support for a small team of buyers. You will manage supplier communications, pricing, quality, schedule, and performance, serving as the primary point of contact and escalation for assigned procurements. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration, requiring your dedicated commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities

• Ensure program requirements are appropriately prioritized and executed to meet Blue Origin’s needs.
• Apply knowledge of Blue Origin Supply Chain and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) compliance standards, strategies, and initiatives.
• Prepare and issue Requests for Proposal (RFP) / Requests for Quote (RFQ), write price reasonableness determinations and price analyses, and lead formal negotiations (pricing, terms and conditions, scope of work, schedule, etc.).
• Construct various contracting types for major procurement activities, including long-range procurement agreements, sourcing partnerships, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Own the procurement process from requisition creation through final payment of invoices and resolve issues within this process.
• Identify, implement, negotiate, execute, and manage strategic agreements (e.g., Long Term Agreements (LTAs), Indefinite Delivery / Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ)).
• Support the procurement organization’s strategic direction to ensure corporate objectives are met, including on-time, within-budget delivery of production materials that meet technical performance requirements.
• Interpret engineering data such as specifications, drawings, and supplier statements of work, and provide suggestions internally and externally.
• Work with contract types other than Firm Fixed Price and collaborate effectively with large, single/sole-source suppliers.
• Operate in ambiguous, development-type programs and define scalable processes.
• Procure avionics, machined parts, raw materials, and/or major subcontracts.
• Earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of tactical experience in procurement/supply chain; OR a Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of tactical experience.
• Ability to interpret and apply company policies, procedures, work instructions, business standards, and U.S. government regulations (e.g., FAR, DFAR, SOX Compliance).
• Strong analytical skills and experience establishing and tracking program metrics.
• Experience performing written price reasonableness determinations and price analyses using various pricing methods and data sources.
• Ability to develop negotiation plans and act as the lead negotiator in all types of negotiations.
• Working understanding of AS9100 quality management system requirements.
• Experience working with other-than-Firm Fixed Price contract types.
• Track record of effectively working with large, single/sole-source suppliers and in ambiguous, development-type programs.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired Experience

• Experience with Costpoint, Exostar, JIRA Atlassian software, or Tableau.
• Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Certification or Project Management (PMP) Certification.
• Experience working with Certified Cost or Pricing Data.
• Experience supporting US Government proposals.
