General Statement of Job
Business Systems Analysts perform duties related to the implementation, management, maintenance, enhancement, support, and decommission of critical software systems, whether purchased through a vendor or developed internally. Business Systems Analysts consult with stakeholders to gather and define requirements; configure and implement new systems and/or enhance existing systems; write and execute test plans; troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues; deliver training and guidance to end users and system/service owners; develop and maintain system documentation; prepare robust reports to enhance strategic business decisions.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert for a complex business system
- Ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of business systems
- Consult with various stakeholders to gather requirements
- Identify and analyze requirements to define scope, objectives, and feasibility
- Modify and configure systems to meet business needs and stakeholder requirements
- Develop, analyze, and maintain new or current system processes and workflows
- Compile data from various databases and/or sources; display and analyze data
- Prepare robust technical reports and create diagrams, workflow maps, or other visuals to facilitate enhanced system understanding
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new systems and solutions, or identify enhancements to existing systems; define requirements and specifications
- Develop and execute test plans and scripts, as well as other quality assurance measures; lead testing such as user acceptance, performance, security, usability, etc.
- Collect user feedback regarding system performance and work with team to prioritize configuration requests
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT staff to streamline solution implementations
- Provide advanced customer service and functional support to end-users in area of expertise
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system issues
- Maintain relationships with vendors; work with vendors on bug fixes, new features, and proper use of products
- Aid in implementing workarounds when system issues affect operations or when resources are limited
- Aid in writing specifications used by developers for automation of business processes
- Participate in the implementation of system patches, updates, and maintenance
- Develop and provide trainings, demonstrations, and regular communication to end-users
- Maintain records of system integrations, changes, and incidents
- Lead portions of large tasks or projects; build and maintain project management skills
- May lead and mentor other Business Systems Analysts and technical staff
- Maintain awareness of accessibility, compliance, and security polices and guidelines
Education, Experience, and Licenses
- Four plus years progressive related experience and/or training required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ERP experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires the ability to use the computer programming languages of SQL, PL/SQL.
- Ability to learn and understand the functional requirements of the ERP System.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, vendor documentation and list-servs.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to administrators, faculty and staff.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, administrators, staff, vendors and members of the public).
- Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
- Requires the ability to repair, develop, or install complex software or management information systems.
