Business Support Analyst II, III or Sr
About the role
The purpose of this position is to primarily support the Operations, Strategy, and Sales organizations with data, resource analysis, and business case support. This role is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and reporting analysis to improve processes, meet goals and challenges, and solve problems. It supports the President of the VNG organization with various levels of analytical support to ensure department metrics and reports are created and provided to both external and internal stakeholders. This role works cross-functionally with VNG business units to leverage back-end data, streamline analysis, and support rate case questions and reviews.
Responsibilities
- Supports business areas in strategic planning.
- Provides business area value-added analysis and reporting (monthly variance reporting, trending, timecard analysis, projections, presentations, and ad-hoc analysis) to support business decision-makers.
- Works with business area leaders to achieve desired results.
- Supports business area needs (non-budget/finance).
- Provides specialized queries and reports to meet management requirements under the direction of FP&A leadership.
- Maps existing processes and creates and maintains training and procedural documentation.
- Analyzes financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions.
- Articulates results, variances, and key drivers effectively.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the business and industry in analyses.
- Creates scenario models and proposes recommendations and alternatives to meet objectives.
- Supports Financial Analysts in preparing labor and expense budgets with data analysis and trending.
- Generates reports for management workflow.
- Collaborates with business areas to understand trends and initiatives (current and future).
- Builds effective relationships with the business area(s) supported.
- Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders to ensure goals and expectations regarding metrics and other deliverables are met.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in process development and as a trusted resource for problem-solving.
- Communicates effectively with all levels of the business area supported.
- Influences business decisions by sharing analyses and expertise.
- Monitors results versus plan and works with business leaders to achieve desired results.
- Implements and/or drives process improvements.
- Provides specialized queries and reports to meet customer requirements and specifications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- BA/BS Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or Information Systems (preferred).
- MBA (desired).
- Business Support Analyst II: 2+ years of experience performing analysis, planning, and management reporting, including experience working with senior leadership.
- Business Support Analyst III: 4+ years of experience performing analysis, planning, and management reporting, including experience working with senior leadership; meets all Business Support Analyst I requirements.
- Business Support Analyst Sr: 7+ years of experience performing analysis, planning, and management reporting, including experience working with senior leadership; meets all Business Support Analyst II requirements.
- Utility, natural gas, or other energy industry experience (preferred).
- Capital and O&M invoice processing and review experience (preferred).
Skills
- Working knowledge of Oracle, PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP, or similar systems.
- MS Excel – intermediate to advanced proficiency.
- MS Office Suite – intermediate proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- General knowledge of accounting (preferred).
- Power BI or Tableau – intermediate to advanced proficiency (preferred).
- IBM Maximo – intermediate to advanced proficiency or similar supply chain system (preferred).
- Advanced analytic skills with software (preferred).
- Experience using AI tools and resources, such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms (preferred).
Schedule
The incumbent works a hybrid schedule in the office/on-site 4 days per week with 1 remote day from home, subject to change per business needs.
Infrequent travel (0-5%): The incumbent may be required to travel on a very limited basis. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
