Business Operations
We are building one of the most potentially consequential companies of the century. Our mission is to accelerate the world's transition to fusion energy while safeguarding humankind. This is not a normal company or job—we are committed for the long term to win.
About the role
You'll work directly with the CEO and executive team on whatever matters most. There is no fixed playbook; the scope will evolve with the company—events, facilities, university recruiting, communications, customer initiatives, investor prep, supply chain, or unforeseen challenges. The role is to understand priorities, organize them, and ensure execution. Expect low ego, high accountability, and direct exposure to leadership and customers from day one.
What we value
- Obsess about the details—sloppy work costs us later, so do it right the first time.
- Care—pick up the trash, do things no one asks you to do, and go the extra mile.
- Act with urgency—every hour matters more than it feels like it does.
- Be responsible for the outcome, not just the task; if it’s not working, it remains your problem until it’s fixed.
- Assume good intent—disagree openly, then commit fully once a decision is made.
Responsibilities
- Take on high-priority projects directly from the CEO and leadership team based on the company’s most pressing needs.
- Move fast without a playbook: figure out what needs to happen and make it happen, even without a template.
- Work cross-functionally, building context quickly on unfamiliar problems.
- Bring structure and follow-through to ambiguous, high-stakes initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to move fast and figure things out without a playbook, shown through past work, projects, or commitments requiring initiative under pressure.
- Low ego, high accountability—takes responsibility for outcomes without needing credit.
- Comfortable operating with direct exposure to executive leadership and switching between very different types of projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
Preferred qualifications
- A track record of high-level competitive commitment (e.g., athletics or comparable high-intensity pursuits) demonstrating discipline, coachability, and performance under pressure.
- Exposure to fast-paced, ambiguous environments (startups, competitive sports, high-stakes academic programs).
Additional requirements
- This is not a remote position; relocation to Fuse’s San Leandro, CA facility is required if not already local.
- Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be needed.
- Some business travel to other Fuse facilities may be required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State to comply with ITAR regulations.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Relocation assistance for roles that require it.
- Flexible time off—take what you need, no accrual tracking.
- 2 weeks of paid time off built into the end of each year (subject to team and business needs).
- Supportive leave of absence policies, including paid leave for new parents.
