About the role

Works in the business office of the center in the areas of Patient Services, Payment Posting, Reception, and/or General Office. May assist internal or external credentialing professionals in completing documents necessary for physician and/or mid-level privileges. As a representative of this facility, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the center's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, guests, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork that is congruent with the center's standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Responsibilities

  • Greets all arriving patients in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing procedures for the center.
  • Answer phones in a pleasant manner and deal with physicians offices and patient needs expeditiously.
  • Completes pre-registration and ensures that authorization has been obtained from the physician's office prior to surgery.
  • Completes all insurance verifications and clearly documents in the patients accounts.
  • Completes all patient calls related to scheduling and billings.
  • Completes necessary paperwork for registration and uses a computer system to generate information for surgical/special procedures.
  • Maintains logs for cancelled surgeries/procedures.
  • Performs various duties such as photocopying forms, reports, patient information, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, faxing forms and retrieving faxes as needed.
  • Contacts patients with a financial responsibility immediately and informs them of the center’s payment policies as well as offers payment options if necessary.
  • Collects all required payments in accordance with surgery center’s financial policies.
  • Completes chart preparation, data entry, collections.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by Business Office Supervisor or Business Office Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years experience in a clinical healthcare setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of patient registration responsibilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing Medicare Part B type claims preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with documentation and standards of billing preferred.

Skills

  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Specialized computer skills; adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communication by e-mail, and use of specialty software.
  • Ability to work with general mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to handle stress appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language; Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to sit; occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally exposed to moderate noise levels in the work environment.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases transmitted by patients and co-workers.

Pay

$18.00 - $24.00 per hour depending on experience.
