About the Role

The Senior BI Analyst serves as a partner to the business or clinical area supported, using analytic expertise—including knowledge of data structures, programming, and statistics—along with critical thinking and subject-area understanding to help the organization make data-driven decisions. This role contributes by collecting, cleaning, and interpreting data sets to answer questions or solve problems, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting the evaluation of existing processes and strategic initiatives.

Senior BI Analysts act as analytics experts in stakeholder discussions, operate independently, and communicate insights effectively to non-technical audiences. They mentor junior BI developers through feedback, code reviews, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Independently consult with stakeholders to gather project requirements and define scope for projects of all sizes.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to design and develop reporting solutions and analytic studies that support business needs.
  • Plan project tasks, provide time and effort estimates, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of relevant source systems and proficiency with related databases/data marts within the first year.
  • Stay current with industry trends and business intelligence software systems used at Geisinger.
  • Recommend analysis approaches and additional analyses or reporting based on business questions and initial findings.
  • Develop, validate, and execute complex queries; create complex reports and perform advanced data analysis to answer business questions.
  • Interpret results and make recommendations to business areas based on findings.
  • Present analysis and reports to internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Apply statistical methods and design data visualizations that accurately reflect intended messages, including limitations.
  • Report and troubleshoot data quality issues during data profiling, testing, or validation.
  • Share knowledge with team members and act as a mentor to other analysts.
  • Participate in strategic departmental initiatives and industry advisory/user groups.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and clarity in describing data analysis results.
  • Proactively share information, offer suggestions, and remove barriers to help the team achieve its goals.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures, including request intake/fulfillment, change management, and data governance practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required).
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (Required). Relevant experience may include a combination of related work experience and education (Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years, Master's Degree = 6 years).
  • Strong experience independently managing multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in data structures, programming, and statistics.
  • Ability to translate complex analyses into insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Initiative, organizational skills, and ability to inspire trust and maintain outstanding customer relationships.
  • Collaborative mindset with eagerness to share knowledge and mentor junior team members.
