About the Role

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA, Sr.) delivers expert-level analyses and insights that enhance organizational decision-making with a high degree of impact. As a member of the Care Access Analytics team, this role supports enterprise priorities that shape how patients access and experience care across UNC Health. The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst partners with operational, clinical, and executive leaders to solve complex business problems, translate data into actionable insights, and lead the development of innovative analytics and data visualization solutions that inform strategy and improve organizational performance. This role also collaborates across clinical, operational, technical, and analytics teams to advance enterprise analytics priorities and promote alignment with organizational data and analytics standards. Data Governance Stewardship role commitments are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Communication, presentations, requirements gathering, and relationships: Acts as a key Business Intelligence & Analytics leader and liaison between hospital leadership, physician leadership, other clinical leaders, ISD, and other stakeholders. Ensures alignment between the department's efforts and organizational goals. Serves as a guide for business intelligence and data development priorities through formal and informal communications. Develops concise, insightful, and politically savvy communications in PowerPoint, email, and verbally via committee meetings, staff meetings, and working sessions. Gathers, synthesizes, and conveys stakeholder requirements into well-thought-out end products.
  • Dashboard, data, and scorecard development: Leads the development of effective key performance indicators, management dashboards, and balanced scorecards that provide enhanced insight and improve organizational decision-making. Ensures proper data development principles and practices are followed in compliance with HCS standards, focusing on data security, availability, and reusability.
  • Healthcare analytics: Provides expertise in healthcare analytics support (financial, clinical, and operational analytics) to generate insights that drive action. Utilizes a broad set of tools, processes, technologies, and stakeholders for collecting, integrating, accessing, and analyzing information. May fulfill reporting and analytics requests.
  • Mentorship, training, and liaison to Central Analytics: Provides mentorship and training in analytical techniques and quality of work to junior analysts. Serves as a trusted business intelligence advisor and supports ad hoc training for other analysts. May manage direct reports, including HR functions such as time and attendance, corrective action, and performance reviews. Acts as a liaison to central analytics, ensuring adherence to protocols, contributing feedback, and minimizing duplication of effort.
  • Project management: Demonstrates efficient project management by clearly defining projects, developing project plans, and setting priorities for working teams.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience: 6 years of experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (e.g., Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Analytics): 4 years of experience
    • Master's degree: 4 years of experience
    • PhD: 2 years of experience
    • Associate's degree: 12 years of experience
    • High School degree: 14 years of experience
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Expert proficiency in SQL
    • Expert proficiency in data visualization software and UI design
    • Understands and leverages existing reusable data sources for visualizations and analytics; creates reusable assets when developing new ones
    • Advanced proficiency in optimizing reusable data sources for visualization and analytics
    • Intermediate proficiency in data architecture
    • Intermediate proficiency in R/Python (or other statistical software) preferred
    • Stakeholder requirements gathering and presentation skills
    • Advanced proficiency in analytics or multidisciplinary team facilitation or project management preferred

Pay

$44.56 - $64.06 per hour (Hiring Range)

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care.
