Business Engagement Manager (BEM) - Upstate NY Ecosystem
About the role
The Business Engagement Manager (BEM) at Genentech serves as a crucial link between the company and financial decision-makers in the healthcare ecosystem. This role represents the Genentech product portfolio, connecting with customers such as large provider institutions and internal stakeholders, including senior leadership and squads. The BEM leverages expertise in account and contract management to influence customers, develop and administer provider contracts, and identify partnership opportunities.
You will utilize an advanced understanding of the contracting landscape and the specific needs of provider healthcare systems and their financial decision-makers (FDMs) to create and implement innovative win-win opportunities that support improved patient outcomes, lower costs, and improved quality of care.
Responsibilities
- Take accountability for provider contract administration within the ecosystem, including informing FDMs about contract eligibility and handling contract paperwork for provider onboarding.
- Drive provider contract pull-through and communication within the ecosystem, ensuring providers are informed about tier status, directional performance, and implications such as discounts and rebates.
- Educate stakeholders about payer formulary status.
- Engage, influence, and partner with senior financial decision-makers and other FDMs within ecosystem practices and health systems to advance business interests and ensure a positive customer experience.
- Work closely with the Director, Healthcare Market (HD) to ensure appropriate contract terms and compliance.
- Represent current and potential future contracted products within the designated ecosystem.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, analytics, finance, or a related field (minimum requirement).
- 8 or more years of cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology) or a related industry (e.g., payers, health systems).
- Advanced understanding of the contracting environment, including the competitive landscape, economic/market factors, and legal/regulatory implications.
- Effective project management and administration of multiple complex contracts involving various stakeholders (internal and external).
- Strong collaboration, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Proven inspiring, influencing, and leadership abilities applicable to both customer and internal audiences, including senior leadership.
- Solid understanding of external laws, codes, and company policies in the healthcare industry.
- Ability to work in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformation while maintaining operational excellence and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or other related graduate-level degree.
- Strong account management skills, knowledge of IDNs, and C-Suite experience.
- Experience with discount and rebate programs and/or 340B.
- Experience with GPOs, specialty pharmacies, and payers.
- Experience with multiple therapeutic areas.
- Proven track record of analytical ability and detail orientation.
Location & Schedule
This is a field-based role covering Buffalo to Albany and south to Binghamton and the southern tier of New York. Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the area. Overnight travel may be required. The position involves significant driving (company-provided or personal vehicle) and prolonged periods of sitting.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position based in New York is $158,600.00 – $294,600.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for incentive compensation.
