Business Development Specialist
Location: Fairfax, VA (Hybrid)
Reports to: Vice President, Client Engagements
Compensation: $90,000–$110,000, commensurate with experience
Travel: Occasional local travel for industry events and customer meetings
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position does not currently require an active security clearance, but candidates must be eligible to obtain one if required by future contract needs.
Responsibilities
- Independently research federal opportunities (RFI, RFP, IDIQ, GWACs, task orders) and deliver analysis that informs pursuit decisions
- Identify, qualify, and prioritize leads; own pipeline accuracy and reporting in CRM tools
- Lead customer call planning and represent HarmonyTech directly in select customer and industry meetings
- Develop competitive intelligence, industry trend analysis, and agency priority assessments for use in capture strategy
- Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, small businesses, and teaming contacts
- Contribute directly to business development strategy sessions, bringing research-backed recommendations
- Represent HarmonyTech at networking and industry events as a visible face of the BD team
- Own key internal BD operations, including CRM tools, SharePoint sites, and pipeline reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field
- 2–4 years of professional experience in business development, consulting, or a related client-facing role — federal contracting experience preferred but not required
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience presenting to or engaging directly with clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Qualifications
- Prior experience at a top-tier consulting or professional services firm, or similar structured, client-facing environment
- Experience or coursework related to federal acquisition, procurement, or government contracting
- Familiarity with CRM/pipeline tools (e.g., GovWin, Salesforce, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of federal socio-economic programs (8(a), WOSB, HUBZone, SDVOSB) and their impact on opportunity pursuit
- Exposure to capture or BD methodologies (Shipley or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of federal agency missions, particularly in the financial regulatory sector (such as OCC, FDIC, EXIM, IRS, CFPB, CFTC, SEC)
