About the role
A leading global provider of engineering services, aftermarket support, and capital equipment solutions within the power generation sector is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across North America. This role can be performed from anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute growth strategies within utility, hydropower, and power generation customer accounts across North America.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers, plant operators, engineering teams, and executive leadership.
- Identify, develop, and manage a pipeline of new business opportunities spanning capital projects, service agreements, aftermarket support, modernization programs, digital solutions, and automation offerings.
- Lead commercial and technical discussions throughout the sales cycle, including proposal development, contract negotiations, and project award.
- Partner with internal engineering, operations, service, and project management teams to develop competitive customer solutions.
- Support the preparation and execution of complex proposals valued from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer priorities to strengthen market positioning and identify growth opportunities.
- Maintain accurate pipeline forecasts and customer activity within CRM systems.
- Contribute to pricing, commercial strategy, and investment planning for key pursuits.
- Evaluate bid outcomes and market feedback to continuously improve win rates and commercial effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, account management, project management, or other customer-facing roles.
- Experience within hydropower, renewable energy, power generation, industrial equipment, engineering services, or related infrastructure markets strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success developing new business and managing complex sales opportunities.
- Strong commercial negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with technical products, engineered systems, or large-scale project solutions.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms such as Salesforce.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing long-term business development initiatives independently.
