About the Role

The Business Development Manager serves as an “account representative” and “subject matter expert” of the Marketing, Communications, and Business Development (MCD) team for their respective Practice(s). This role acts as a project manager and implementer of marketing and business development projects, working with practice groups, industry groups, regional offices, and ad hoc groups of lawyers to provide a suite of services. The BD Manager may directly provide these services or coordinate the efforts of other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an account representative and internal consultant for assigned practice or industry groups, helping attorneys become more effective in their marketing and business development efforts.
  • Understand the regulatory and business environment of the firm’s clients, including industry-specific strategies across varied geographic markets.
  • Lead and execute marketing and business development activities, including:
    • Advertising, public relations, and media relations
    • Training and contact management
    • Event and sponsorship management
    • Proposal and marketing material writing
    • Client presentation assistance
  • Collaborate with Practice Group Leaders or Administrative Partners on strategic initiatives, such as:
    • SWOT and gap analyses
    • Marketing and business development planning for groups, sub-groups, and individual attorneys
    • Group retreat planning, management, and execution
    • Business development coaching for individuals and small groups
    • Practice group marketing budget adherence and planning
  • Supervise and manage a marketing coordinator, including:
    • Overseeing schedules, work, and productivity
    • Making hiring, selection, and staffing decisions in alignment with firm policies
    • Providing timely and constructive performance feedback and evaluations
    • Handling discipline and termination with HR support as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • BA or BS degree preferred, or additional equivalent experience; MBA or JD is a plus.
  • Marketing, business development, or public relations experience preferred.
  • Experience in the professional services field is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and the MCD team.
  • Excellent client service and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a tactical and process-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; interest and aptitude for technology solutions preferred.

Work Environment

  • Professional office atmosphere with primarily sedentary work involving prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasional off-hour meetings and events.
  • Travel to firm office locations may be required, with potential for overnight or weekend travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift, carry, or move objects weighing at least ten (10) pounds.
  • Repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements for computer and office equipment use.
  • Clear speech and active listening skills.

Schedule

This position offers a hybrid schedule, typically requiring in-office presence two to three days per week. Additional in-office days may be required based on business needs. The hybrid work structure is subject to change.

Pay

Compensation is determined based on a candidate’s education, training, experience, work location, external market factors, and internal value, including seniority and merit systems. A discretionary bonus may be available based on performance.
