About the Role

The Business Development Manager serves as an “account representative” and “subject matter expert” of the Marketing, Communications & Business Development (MCD) team for their respective Practice(s), as well as a project manager and implementer of marketing and business development projects. This role works with practice group(s), industry group(s), regional offices, and ad hoc groups of lawyers to provide a suite of marketing and business development services. Sometimes the BDM provides these services directly; other times, they act as a project manager, coordinating the services of others on the team.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the business of your ‘clients,’ including all sub-sectors of the practice group or office, acting as both an account representative and an internal consultant to help clients become more effective and efficient in their marketing and business development efforts.
  • Work closely with attorneys and other personnel in practice and industry groups, understanding the regulatory and business environment facing client industries, including differing strategies needed across the firm’s varied geographic markets.
  • Manage marketing and business development activities and projects beyond account responsibilities, including advertising, public relations, media relations, training, contact management, event and sponsorship management, proposal writing, marketing material development, client presentations, and other projects.
  • Collaborate with Practice Group Leaders or Administrative Partners on strategic direction, including SWOT analyses, gap analyses, marketing and business development planning, group retreat planning, individual and small group business development coaching, and practice group marketing budget adherence.
  • Supervise a marketing coordinator, overseeing their schedule, work, and productivity, and managing hiring, performance feedback, evaluations, discipline, and termination in accordance with firm policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ experience, or equivalent.
  • BA or BS degree preferred, or additional equivalent experience; MBA or JD a plus.
  • Marketing, business development, or public relations experience preferred.
  • Experience in the professional services field preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and the MCD team.
  • Excellent client service and organizational skills, with the ability to manage concurrent, significant projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on both high-level planning and tactical execution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; interest and aptitude for technology solutions preferred.

Work Environment

Professional office atmosphere with sedentary work primarily involving sitting or standing for prolonged periods. Occasional off-hour meetings and events may be required. Travel to firm office locations during the business week is expected, with some overnight or weekend travel possible.

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least ten (10) pounds.
  • Repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement for computer and office equipment use.
  • Speak clearly and concisely, and understand the speech of others.

Schedule

This position offers a hybrid schedule, generally in-office two to three days per week. Additional in-office days may be required based on business needs. The hybrid work structure may change at any time.

Pay

Compensation is determined based on a candidate’s education, training, experience, work location, external market, and internal value. The salary range for Colorado and Nevada is $94,152.85 to $156,921.42 annually. A discretionary bonus may be available based on performance.
