About the role

We're looking for a Business Development Director who is responsible for identifying, negotiating, and managing strategy partnerships that drive distribution, content licensing, and audience growth for the company’s products. You will own deals end-to-end – from initial outreach and pitch through contract negotiation, launch and ongoing partner management – spanning distribution partnerships (telco, retail, device manufacturers, airlines), content licensing partners (media and IP owners) and platform partners (app stores). The ideal candidate is a self-directed dealmaker who can manage a high-volume, multi-threaded pipeline while working closely with Legal, Finance, Product, Marketing, and Engineering to move deals from concept to signed, launched partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, prioritize and pursue new distribution, licensing and platform partnership opportunities aligned with company growth goals
  • Lead partner outreach, pitching, and negotiation from first contact through signed agreement, including structuring commercial terms (revenue share, bounties, minimum guarantees, marketing commitments)
  • Manage a full partnership pipeline across multiple deal stages simultaneously, keeping deals moving and flagging risks or blockers proactively
  • Partner with Legal to draft, redline and finalize contracts, NDAs and statements of work
  • Coordinate with Finance on deal economics, invoicing and payment terms for licensing and distribution agreements
  • Work with Product, Engineering and Marketing to scope, launch and support live partnerships (e.g. preload integrations, in-app events, co-marketing campaigns, editorial features)
  • Manage ongoing relationships with live partners, including performance reviews, renewals, and expansion opportunities
  • Track and report on partnership performance metrics (conversion, redemption rates, revenue impact) to inform deal strategy
  • Prepare and deliver regular partnership status updates to cross-functional and executive stakeholders
  • Monitor market trends and competitive partnership activity to identify new opportunities

Requirements

  • 6+ years of proven success in business development, partnerships or strategic alliances experience, ideally in consumer subscription products, edtech, family/kids media or mobile apps
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent experience a plus
  • Proven track record structuring and closing distribution, licensing or platform partnership agreements, including negotiating commercial terms (revenue share, bounty/CPA structures, minimum guarantees, exclusivity)
  • Experience managing a multi-deal pipeline simultaneously, prioritizing across partners at different stages (prospecting, negotiation, contracting, launch, renewal)
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Product and Marketing to structure deals, manage contracting workflows, and coordinate launches
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting partner-facing proposals, decks, and negotiation correspondence, and delivering concise updates to executive stakeholders
  • Familiarity with app store mechanics (Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore), OEM preload/device partnerships, or affiliate/card-linked offer programs is a strong plus
  • Experience with content licensing, IP partnerships, or media rights negotiation is a plus
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating with ambiguity in a fast-moving partner-facing role

Benefits

  • Age Of Learning currently provides 91% of employee health and welfare benefits premiums & 70% of dependent benefits premiums
  • A 401(k) program with employer match
  • 15 paid vacation days (increases to 20 days on your 3rd anniversary), 12 observed national paid holidays, 9 sick days, and 16 paid volunteer hours per year
  • 7 paid days for company-wide year-end closure (includes 3 observed paid holidays)

Pay

The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $130,000 USD - $175,000 USD. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Total compensation includes eligibility to participate in a bonus plan based on company goals.

Schedule

  • Flexible work culture with options for 2 or more days in the office (hybrid) or 100% fully remote for most positions
