Business Banking Underwriter

General Function

Review and decide small business relationships, focusing on business purpose credits up to $2 million, in a centralized environment. If a warning sign appears, the PM will gather all necessary information and determine the appropriate risk rating and credit action based on the risk profile. Complete underwriting memos for business purpose requests as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze financial statements based on information provided in the loan package.
• Collaborate with relationship managers to gather all necessary information for credit requests or risk ratings.
• Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on underwriting criteria, including loan structure, collateral, interest rate, and fees.
• Negotiate terms and conditions of loans with the relationship team.
• Coach Banking Center staff and commercial relationship managers to enhance their understanding of small business customers.
• Identify and communicate cross-sell opportunities discovered during the underwriting process.
• Communicate loan decisions to loan originators effectively.
• Ensure all necessary due diligence items are completed.
• Complete risk ratings according to policy and perform periodic reviews and ALSR reports.
• Avoid SAG transfers if not necessary.
• Assist the Documentation Specialist as needed.
• Perform miscellaneous job duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

• College degree in accounting, finance, or economics is preferred.
• 3+ years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience, preferably in the banking industry.
• Proficient in basic software applications such as Microsoft Access, Word, and Excel.
• Familiarity with the Bank's internal applications is helpful.
• Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education, and geographic location.
