About the role

The Staff Business Analyst, AI-Enabled Commerce is a senior individual contributor role based in San Mateo, CA, with remote work options for West Coast candidates. This position focuses on leading complex business analysis for high-impact AI and machine learning initiatives across digital commerce, personalization, subscriptions, and publishing operations. The role involves translating commercial objectives into actionable business requirements, collaborating with product, engineering, and data science teams, and influencing senior stakeholders through data-driven recommendations. The analyst will also partner with data analytics teams to design and evaluate experiments, map business processes, guide automation efforts, and mentor team members in AI/ML methodologies while emphasizing responsible data practices.

Note: This role is not a product management or technical data science position and does not involve feature ownership or delivery management.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex business analysis for AI and ML projects impacting digital commerce, personalization, and subscriptions.
• Translate broad commercial goals into detailed, measurable business requirements.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to ensure alignment and successful product delivery.
• Influence senior stakeholders through structured problem framing, financial analysis, and data-informed recommendations.
• Partner with analytics teams to design, execute, and analyze experiments related to personalization and revenue optimization.
• Map existing business processes and lead initiatives for process improvement and automation to enhance operational efficiency.
• Mentor team members in AI/ML business analysis practices and promote responsible data use.
• Champion continuous learning and knowledge sharing across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Business Analysis within digital commerce, subscriptions, or retail sectors.
• Proven ability to decompose vague business problems into structured analytical questions and clear requirements.
• Experience partnering with product, engineering, and data science teams to design and deliver commerce solutions.
• Strong understanding of decision logic and ability to challenge assumptions with data and financial reasoning.
• Expertise in mapping complex business processes and leading process improvement initiatives.
• Hands-on experience working alongside data science and machine learning teams, including defining AI/ML requirements and evaluating models.
• Deep knowledge of experimentation, measurement, and ROI analysis.
• Commercial acumen with familiarity discussing unit economics, marginal versus absolute lift, and financial impact.
• Excellent executive communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly and persuasively.
• Preferred experience with personalization, next best action frameworks, or decision automation.
• Knowledge of AI governance, ethics, and responsible data practices.
• Experience working in global, cross-functional environments is a plus.

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $178,100 to $267,100 USD and may vary based on location and other factors. This role is eligible for SIE’s benefits package and may include a bonus.
