About the role
The Business Analyst I - Underwriting supports underwriting operations by analyzing business processes, gathering requirements, and assisting in the development and implementation of solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and profitability. This entry-level role works closely with underwriting teams, IT, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable insights and system enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with underwriting teams to understand workflows, business needs, and system requirements.
- Gather, document, and analyze business requirements for underwriting systems, tools, and processes.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, automation, and data quality.
- Support the development, testing, and implementation of underwriting system enhancements and projects.
- Create and maintain process flows, business requirement documents (BRDs), and functional specifications.
- Analyze underwriting data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensure solutions meet business requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and IT teams.
- Assist in troubleshooting system issues and providing user support.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, company, and underwriting guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Information Systems, related field or equivalent business experience.
- 0-2 years of experience in business analysis, underwriting support, insurance, or related field.
- Basic understanding of insurance underwriting processes and risk assessment (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with data tools is a plus.
Skills
- Knowledge of insurance systems and policy administration platforms.
- Exposure to SQL, data analysis tools, or reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Familiarity with Agile or Waterfall project methodologies.
Pay
The expected salary range for this role is USD $49,000.00 – USD $73,000.00 per year. Salaries are based on factors including candidate skills, experience, education, role scope, and market considerations.
