Bus Technician / Mechanic I (3rd Shift)

About the role

Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) seeks a Bus Technician / Mechanic I to join our team. This position operates on a Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 pm-7:30 am schedule.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and overhaul RTS buses and fleet vehicles
• Perform inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
• Replace and adjust parts; complete necessary test drives
• Operate diagnostic equipment (e.g., Cummins InSite, Allison)
• Perform welding, brazing, cutting torch work, and operate tow truck as needed
• Report safety concerns and equipment issues to supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Two (2) years in an accredited diesel mechanics program or comparable technical coursework
• OR Equivalent, verifiable work experience (two years may substitute for one year of education)
• Must have own tools
• Must obtain NYS CDL Class B permit with passenger & air brake endorsements prior to start; CDL-B license required within 90 days
• Must obtain CDL Class A permit & towing endorsement (may be after hire); CDL-A required within 90 days of permit
• Must pass post-offer physical
• English proficiency required for safety, communication, and use of manuals/instructions

• Must meet physical demands described here to perform essential functions
• Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration
• Occasional exposure to risks
• Work near moving mechanical parts

Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment
• Good communication skills

Pay

$33.17 per hour starting pay, with a top rate of $41.48 per hour within 3 years.

Schedule

Available shift: Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 pm-7:30 am (Friday and Saturday off).
