Bus Paraprofessional

Purpose

Provides school bus and individual student support for safely and fairly transporting special education student(s) to and from school and for other school and special education related programs and services. Assists with loading and unloading, bus preparation, scheduling, communication with staff and parents, students personal needs, and logistics.

Qualifications

• Experience desired in mechanical and maintenance work
• Must be knowledgeable in all phases of auto and equipment repair
• Must be able to read, write and comprehend written and oral directions
• Class B CDL with School Bus endorsements, Passenger endorsements, and Air brake endorsements

Essential Duties

• Maintains qualifications as a school bus driver to be available for substitute driving
• Perform service and repair on school buses and vans
• Perform service and repair on mowing equipment and maintenance vehicles
• Maintain shop equipment and tools
• Clean shop on a regular basis
• Pick up parts for vehicle and equipment repair when needed
• Help in Wash Bay to keep vans and buses clean

Attendance Requirements

• Up to forty (40) hour work week may be required
• Schedules may be altered depending upon the critical nature and/or emergency circumstances of the job
• Workday hours will be determined as required by conditions and/or requirements
• Sick day and vacation day allowances included in district personnel policy

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions

• Requires prolonged standing
• Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
• Requires climbing and balancing
• Requires driving skills, including ability to operate a vehicle at night
• Must work indoors and outdoors year round
• Must work in noisy, crowded, stressful environment
• Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors
• May be required to wear protective equipment, including gloves, for exposure control under limited circumstances

• Must support district mission, goals and objectives
• Must meet all job standards in a time sensitive manner as determined by supervisor
• Must demonstrate ability to respond quickly to emergencies
• Must demonstrate ability to meet quality, quantity standards and on time requirements in job duties and assignments
• Must perform minimum vehicle systems maintenance
• Must meet district grooming and interpersonal standards
• Must meet all district safety requirements
• A performance evaluation will be conducted according to district policy by the employee's supervisor or their designee

Other Job Duties

• Any and all other duties as assigned by Transportation Director
• A classified employee may be transferred at any time to any job which he/she is qualified to perform and when the transfer is deemed to be in the best interest of the district
